Most newspapers are writing articles about the latest Led Zeppelin concert.
In this video you can see the lack of interest among the French audience , when seeing Led Zeppelin in real live ! Indeed, we think we remember a lot more of the year 1969 than we saw in reality …………….
What we can’t see anymore is, ………. John Bonham (Bonzo) on his drums ! You can see him in the video at 9.15 minutes from the start. With Led Zeppelin he started a new way of playing drums and many copied his style.
The video was recorded in Paris 1969.
In this second video you can see Bonzo playing Moby Dick. In those days it was quite normal that drumsolo’s took 10 to 20 minutes. In my memory those drum-solo’s were specially appreciated by the guys ; the girls only liked Leonard Cohen 😉
But hey;………….John died because of a stupid alcoholism and drawly Leonard still lives. Is it the difference between “heavy rocker” and “ballad-singer” ?
Anyway…………I must have heard Moby Dick for a thousand times on my old record player in the seventies, but I first saw him on videos just a few years ago. I am too old to die young and all people of my age are 30 years later witnessing the great musical moments of their youth on the computer. And since I saw Bonzo playing with his mighty sticks ( and experimenting with his bare hands without losing power of the sound ), my respect for his skills increased to maximum.
The video was recorded at The Royal Albert Hall – 1970
