our camper

We decided to give our camper away !  The choice we had was giving it to someone who would be able to fix all the rust and repair the old electric cables, or ……. bring it to the scrapyard.

It feels like losing a family-member. It brought us 14 years of happiness during our vacations. A short history of our vacations is here. It’s from an old “homepage” that’s last been updated in 2007!

Now we’re trying to find a new one ….

  1. I’ve seen your wonderful pictures of your camping trip and I saw the picture of your beautiful camper today, then read your words, “We decided to give our camper away !” My first response was “OH…)-;

    I know how hard it can be. I have an old government surplus 4WD diesel van that is crumbling apart in my drive way with always the thought of fixing it. A few years back I was at the point, “fix the van or buy my velomobile Quest. The Quest won out and I have to say that it was the best thing I ever did for myself. I would love to get the van running again but…..I too need to give it away.

    • Fixing old campers is not a hobby of me ; travelling with them is ! The guy who gets this old camper likes to fix things, but I don’t think he’ll travel all over Europe with it 😉
      Giving away stuff gives me much more pleasure than selling ….
      The velomobile is another hobby of mine, but travelling in a camper through Europe is something I share with my wife. And sharing a hobby with your other half is priceless ….

  2. Wim,

    Good decision! Your camper served its purpose. It was time to move on and let someone else make use of the camper. I, too would rather give things away than sell them. Seems more satisfying. I once had a garage sale where everything was free. It was fun and turned out to be a study in sociology.
