The Collegiate Church of Santa María de Alquézar.

Marjan wanted to visit this church because it originally had Moorish influences. I went because there was a huge rain shower. But I enjoyed taking photos without a tripod in the little light … and was impressed by all the frills that had been placed in this church for the past 1000 years.

The guide spoke only Spanish. I didn’t understand anything.

But because the Catholics have regarded churchgoers for centuries as ignorant and illiterate, no one needs to be able to read or hear to understand the message that is brought by all paintings, statues, drawings, rugs, etc.

Because I am an atheist, I am no less impressed by the great craftsmanship with which all things are made to spread the happy message.

A lot of appearance … has cost a lot …

My Mother used to say oftentimes about her faith … “God alone is enough for me.”

I found the “window” in this photo very special. It seems to be translucent marble.

It is a pity that I could not capture it properly in one photo (without a tripod).

Around the monastery garden, I have made many pictures of the paintings on the walls. For many centuries creative Christians have been busy here to display the stories from their Bible …

Everything is still clearly recognizable, even if it is in poor condition.

As soon as the rain stopped, we went back to our camper … I was not converted despite all the “advertising”
