old carpenter’s ruler

A long time ago I got a toolbox from a friend. It had belonged to his deceased parents and he wouldn’t use it himself and wanted to throw it away. That’s a pity … and so I too kept this toolbox unused in the shed for about 10 more years. Today I opened it … and immediately saw this old carpenter’s ruler! In perfect condition!

Note the small perfect brass hinges and the beautifully executed numbers that are delicately applied and the accurately indicated scale.

I will probably never use it, but I really enjoy seeing such a piece of craftsmanship.
