old ashtray

This is an old ashtray that my grandparents Jan Frederik Harwig  and Neeltje van Waveren got from his brother. His brother emigrated to the promised land “the United States of America” at the beginning of the last century. As a parting gift he made a number of copper ashtrays, as a reminder.

It is clearly handmade with love for the coppersmith trade.

On the bottom, he has stamped the names of the persons to whom it was given.
