Rob had the same experience as I had with the jacket of my bicycle chain lock. But I put a quote of Rob in practice : never travel without Duct tape !
So now the paint on my Bullitt is protected by the Duct tape around the padlock and chain.

What about an old bicycle inner-tube to cover the chain?

I have thought about that simple solution too, but the ones I had in my shed were too small sized to get the chain in. A wider model would do the trick though !

You guys are most probably aware of this, but just in-case: The sleeving of chains can be held in place at each end with a hole punched through the sleeve and a cable-tie threaded though the penultimate link to secure the sleeve.
