Saint George

Saint George is a patron saint of scouting. Back in the days when I was still active in the Boy Scouts, we organized a cozy campfire every year where the story of Saint George and the dragon was told and portrayed.

This year this turned out not to be possible due to the COVID-19 crisis. My old boy scout group came up with a solution …

I hope for the youth that it will be possible to sit around a campfire again in the near future. Experiencing the enormous heat radiation in your face while your back feels extremely cold, warming your hands to a bowl of lukewarm pea soup, watching a “performance” of Saint George and the dragon by the scouts …

This was just a small firepit to make some “bread”.

People are “storytellers”. For example, I have translated the story many times in my imagination into the situations in which I found myself in my life. It will probably take decades for these boy scouts to realize that the story is still happening now and in the future … Think of Greta Thunberg, Julian Assange, etc, etc. Most likely there is also a yet unknown “Saint George” trying to kill the COVID virus at this moment, let’s hope so …
