I gave my Zephyr recumbent some good maintenance and plucked the old Bob-yak from the ceiling of our shed, where it hanged for 20 years. Some black paint, new bearings, grease and a bit oil after a good cleaning was all it took to be ready to roll. It’s funny that Strava asked if IContinue reading “Zephyr and Bob-yak”

L’EROICA
In the country with a lot of cycling, the Netherlands, a l’eroica has never been organized … Why not? How did that happen ? Isn’t it time to start next year ? Just seeing these videos already makes me happy … I can’t wait to cycle along with such an event myself … Only happyContinue reading “L’EROICA”
tinkering with a bicycle bell
I think the pictures are self-explanatory … Today I cycled a bit and in various situations where pedestrians and cyclists blocked the cycle path, there was an understanding response and they made room for me … there was no fierce and angry reaction like after using the horn!
I need a “friendly” sounding bicycle bell.
Today I noticed again that other cyclists react incorrectly to the “moped horn” that I now use a lot. They are shocked because they think that I am cycling dangerously fast and when I use the simple bicycle bell (which is in my velomobile), they do not hear it properly. So I will try toContinue reading “I need a “friendly” sounding bicycle bell.”
LED daytime running lights
One of the two LED daytime running lights had broken. Since the lid was loose for maintenance, I immediately renewed both. Yesterday I asked Velomobiel.nl which lights they use for this. They are these that they order in large amounts at Conrad, they are most likely not for sale at a local electrical store.Today IContinue reading “LED daytime running lights”

Sparta Radar
An old Sparta bicycle (model Radar) was unused for a few years in the shed. I refurbished it a bit. I also made a box with wood from the wood storage and some old materials that were in the box called “do not yet throw away”. The wood had been stored in our wood storage for aboutContinue reading “Sparta Radar”
new cleats
8 years ago I bought my Shimano sandals and today I had to renew the cleats, because I had troubles with my left cleat. I placed them relatively far under my foot, because my heels protrude less deep under the Quest and of course also because I suffer less from less blood circulation in theContinue reading “new cleats”
putting things together …
After this photo I rounded the edges of the hinges a bit better with a file. The corona crisis made me think back to my father who always kept the “used-but-still-good” screws, bolts and nuts in glass jars. I have adopted that habit … in times of crisis always handy to have some spare inContinue reading “putting things together …”
Top half is off …
The top is off so that I can easily reach everything inside the Quest-body. I clearly notice that my own body is now 64 years old and the flexibility has disappeared in recent years. The small openings in Quest 552 are such that I have to choose; either see through it, or put one armContinue reading “Top half is off …”
new rims
Today I mounted the new rims. I bought them at velomobiel.nl and had them 2 days later … Tomorrow I want to take off the hood to better access the drive and lighting.
Rims
How long can you continue driving with the original velomobile rims? Today I lost confidence and decided to renew them …
velomobile parts
Today I received the improved version of the broken clamps! Thanks to Mark Waters I was able to assemble them today and adjust my bottom bracket again. So tomorrow I will cycle again and from the day after tomorrow plenty of commuters! Mark has made my worldview a little more positive. They still exist …Continue reading “velomobile parts”
how recumbent-riders help each other …
Today I have experienced that there are still good honest and nice cyclists in the world …
