my velomobile history …

For years I’ve used a velomobile for my commute. I had a good condition although I was a heavy smoker and used to smoke even while cycling. In November 2013 I quit my job at the Thermphos-site and had to use a car, for my employers were not accessible by bicycle or the distance was wayContinue reading “my velomobile history …”

commuting with Quest 552

My colleagues Harm and Bram saw me arriving at work in my velomobile and made a video with their mobile phone. Nicely done guys! If I’d known they were recording … I would’ve gone much faster 😉

putting things together …

After this photo I rounded the edges of the hinges a bit better with a file. The corona crisis made me think back to my father who always kept the “used-but-still-good” screws, bolts and nuts in glass jars. I have adopted that habit … in times of crisis always handy to have some spare inContinue reading “putting things together …”

low maintenance means that it is difficult to repair

I managed to get the lighting back in order, but to replace the hood again, I failed hopelessly. The silicone was cured sooner than I was done with reinstalling the bolts … with the result that the latter bolts didn’t fit, because the hood was gone crooked. Therefore my advice: do not buy an oldContinue reading “low maintenance means that it is difficult to repair”

Old videos

David mentioned an old video of mine that inspired him to buy a velomobile as well. As a result, I also saw the old videos again … Quite nice, even though the video technology has improved a lot in recent years … The first one is the “oliebollentocht 2007“. The second one is “paastreffen 2010“.

Cycling ancesters

I think my father (standing right) is about 18 years old when this photo was made… so the photo is about 100 years old! The photo fades away, I tried to get a bit more contrast in it. Nothing is eternal … My father apparently had a nice luxury bike! But my grandfather was alreadyContinue reading “Cycling ancesters”

Top half is off …

The top is off so that I can easily reach everything inside the Quest-body. I clearly notice that my own body is now 64 years old and the flexibility has disappeared in recent years. The small openings in Quest 552 are such that I have to choose; either see through it, or put one armContinue reading “Top half is off …”

Cycling home after the nightshift

Too bad I didn’t have my camera with me … the “photos” of the phone will have to do it … It was a beautiful sunrise! How much money would an average person want to spend to experience this beautiful sunset while cycling in a comfortable velomobile? I earned that money this morning on topContinue reading “Cycling home after the nightshift”

Biggest velomobile gathering in the world: “Oliebollentocht “

Jan Trenson made a very nice video of the last “oliebollentocht”. I couldn’t be with them, but hope to participate the next time in December 2020 … Ever since the first “oliebollentocht”, it has been a tradition for participants to cycle from their home to the trip, to ride the trip themselves and then cycleContinue reading “Biggest velomobile gathering in the world: “Oliebollentocht “”

The most recent edition of Ligfiets& is on our kitchen table again. It is nice to read the article in which it is recalled that the association was established 35 years ago. A nice photo of a number of people who took the lead at the start of the Dutch recumbent culture. It reminds me ofContinue reading “35 years ago …”
